“I’d get a call from the doctor in the middle of the night and off I’d go.”

As a young nurse some sixty years ago, Marielle Stone assisted the country doctor with home deliveries. Although birthing methods have changed over the decades, Marielle’s own commitment to community involvement has not. Athol postmistress, Village Hardware owner, president of the Holy Family League of Charity and more recently president of the Athol-Orange AARP, she has always given to her community. Today, Marielle’s community is now able to give back. Widowed and living alone, she has the help of Catholic Charities Home care aides who assist her with daily personal care, meal preparation and housecleaning. Using saved energy with this assistance, she is able to socialize and share her scrapbook and some memories…

Long active in Our Lady Immaculate parish, she held fundraising balls to help Catholic Charities. “They loved to dance, so I made them pay for it,” she says with a grin. And dance they did so that funds raised could purchase clothes and blankets for newborn infants in Catholic Charities foster care.

Marielle Stone was able to remain living in her own home with the help of Catholic Charities home care aides until several weeks before her passing.
