The Startling Truth:
Many families struggle to pay for food, rent, utilities, and transportation. As a result, 1 in 3 families cannot afford diapers, which are not covered by the Women, Infants and Children (WIC) program or the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). This leads to many infants being in one diaper the entire day, often resulting in infections and rashes. This can also cause emotional and psychological issues for parents and caregivers who then struggle to bond with their baby.
How Catholic Charities is Impacting Change:
Troubled by these facts, Catholic Charities has begun collecting diapers and wipes and has applied for different grants to purchase these necessities for families. Staff members are collecting these items, getting the word out about this program, and working with volunteers to build partnerships within the communities we serve.
